Coaching Team

FWCC has five British Cycling coaches. All our coaches hold valid 1st aid certificates, have undergone ‘Safe Guarding and Child Protection’ training, undertaken a DBS check and hold British Cycling Coaching Indemnity and Liability Insurance.

 As Level 2 Coaches none of the team are able to offer one to one coaching sessions and are only permitted to lead training sessions with a minimum group of 3 riders.

 

Angus Fileman Lead Coach

Angus runs the sessions at Southdowns college on Saturday mornings (see below for more details). He coordinates the sessions that the club offers. He is the Coach to contact if you would like the club to arrange a particular session or if you would like to find out about other sessions available in the region.

Nigel Marris

Nigel brings a wealth of experience to the coaching team. A former Cat 3 Racer, Club TT champion Nigel is able to draw on this experience to give context to all those FWCC riders who, may or may not be interested in pinning a number on, or equally who want to improve their technical ability on the bike.

Kerry Sedman

Kerry adds the female touch to the coaching team, and her desire is to help and encourage both our younger members as well as female riders whether they are new or experienced and help them progress with their cycling journey.

Mike Stevens

Mike currently runs the clubs weekly Tuesday nights winter Sufferfest turbo sessions and the Saturday morning Southdowns college sessions.

Clare is qualified as a  British Cycling level 1 coach and is embracing the opportunity of coaching our younger riders.

Coaching Opportunities

 Junior and Youth coaching

South Downs College – Every other Saturday morning Junior and Youth coaching (under 18s) at South Downs College car park (PO7 8AA) 9:15 – 11.00 All abilities welcome. You will need a safe road worthy bike, helmet and suitable clothing. Bring a drink and snack and parents to stay on site.

 Cost £3.00 per rider. We share the delivery of these sessions with Portsmouth North end Cycling club meaning FWCC run one session every two weeks with PNE running the other.

Sufferfest Indoor Turbo sessions

Catisfield Memorial Hall – (Clubhouse)

Every week from late October through to late March. 

FWCC are an official Sufferfest UCI approved Training embassy and run weekly turbo training sessions starting at 7:30pm. sessions run for around an hour to hour and a quarter.

 Cost £4 adult FWCC members, £5 Non-members, Junior FWCC Members £3.00, Junior non-members £4.00

 Bring your own bike, a towel and a water bottle. Turbos are available to hire if needed from the club at an extra cost of £2.00 per session.

 

Saturday Training Rides

A group of Faster riders often meet on a Saturday for a training ride, this may involve hill climbing circuits or fast chain gang work and is usually at a high intensity with Average speeds between 17-19 Mph or more. Meet points are flexible. If you would like to join these please message Mike Stevens or Neil Mackley who will add you to the Watts App group where these are usually arranged.
