How to load from ‘Ride with GPS’ routes into your Garmin
Connect your Garmin to a USB port on the computer,( my computer then asks me if I want to scan the Garmin, I have never bothered with that ). Open the’ club run routes’ page in the Fwcc’s website, scroll down and find the route you want then open the HTTP/ridewithgps link. This will open up the ‘Ride with GPS’ page with the route in the centre and turn by turn instructions on the left. On the right find the word ‘EXPORT’ and click on that. You will then get a choice of TXC course or GPX track. I believe the TXC is the better one to use. Click on TXC and you get a box to either ‘open’ or ‘save’ file. Choose ‘Save file’ and click ok.
You can now minimise the’ Ride with GPS’ page. Now, find where on your computer that file was saved, for me it’s in Libraries under favourites. Find the file you saved and drag it across to the desktop. You can now close the libraries window or whatever your file is called. Next, go to’ My Computer’ and along with hard disc drives and devices with removable storage you will see ‘Garmin edge 810’ (or whatever your Garmin model is). Click on that and you will see, in my case, 4 folders, click on the ‘Garmin’ folder and a whole list of other folders will be shown.
Find the folder ‘New Files’ and open that. Now drag the saved file from your desktop across into the empty folder page. You should see it load and appear on the page. That’s it. Close all the boxes and then when you disconnect your Garmin just double check it opens with the new route. (With thanks to Sly Jennings for original instructions) Other GPS devices should be similar.
