What are Reliability Rides?

Reliability Rides are not races, but rather long distance rides which emphasise fitness, self reliance and navigational skills . Reliability Rides normally stipulate the completion of a given route within a given time limit (e.g. 100 miles in 8 hours).

Reliability Rides are most often run by Cycling Clubs and usually take place in the winter period. They are used by regular racers and club riders alike, to maintain winter fitness. Riders taking part in a Reliability Ride will sometimes be issued with a route card, detailing the course of the event, but equally a GPS file is frequently supplied.

The growth of Sportive events has overshadowed the Reliability Ride. However, these events tend to be smaller, more friendly and less expensive to enter. Reliability Rides (like audaxs) also tend to be organised by not-for-profit cycling clubs rather than professional event organisers, and are therefore a great way to engage with your local club and find out more about club cycling.

30, 50 and 70 mile routes are offered. GPS files are available below for all distances; click on either the map or download button to access details for your chosen distance.

Reliability Ride 30 miles

Reliability Ride 50 miles

Trundle & Steep 70 miles

Volunteer Request to Members

Would anyone be willing and able to help out by making Chilli for the Reliachility Ride? (Recipe can be provided on request) – We usually have meat and veg versions.

We also need volunteers on the day to help with serving the chilli and making drinks.

This a very popular event in the Club’s calendar that is open to non-members. We want to make it as successful as previous years and would really appreciate all offers of help.

Contact Allison if you are able to offer help or are interested in joining the ride – we need a rough idea of numbers in advance.
