Eclipse Busway and Cycleway, Gosport – Engineering Works
Advanced works are to be undertaken as part of the Eclipse Busway extension scheme from 7th August 2019. Drainage maintenance works will be undertaken along Henry Cort Way, between Rowner Road Bridge and Military Road, and is expected to take approximately six weeks. There will be some disruption to pedestrians and cyclists using Henry Cort Way whilst these works are being undertaken, with any required minor diversions and narrowing of the footpath / cycleway being clearly signed. There will be a temporary site compound by Rowner Road Bridge, with some access required from Turner Avenue, which will cause minimal disruption to traffic, but pedestrians and cyclists should be aware of site traffic in the vicinity.
On completion of the above works, site preparation works will commence from 16thSeptember 2019 along Henry Cort Way, between Hutfield Link and Rowner Road Bridge, and is expected to take approximately 10 weeks. These works include the removal of vegetation, installation of ducts, removal of railway tracks and other preparatory works. Most of these will be undertaken away from the cycle / pedestrian footway, meaning that access along Henry Cort Way will be maintained throughout. There will be a temporary site access at Hutfield Link, which will cause minimal disruption to traffic, but pedestrians and cyclists should be aware of site traffic in the vicinity.
This work is advanced preparation only and is being undertaken ahead of the main construction programme, currently planned to commence in 2020. This £11.6 million major improvement scheme will complete the remaining first phase of the busway between Tichborne Way and Rowner Road, Gosport and help improve journey times and connectivity across the Gosport peninsula, including onwards to Portsmouth via the Gosport Ferry.
